PCCA Update for 2026
Happy New Year to all carvers and club associates of Prairie Canada Carvers Association (PCCA). May your upcoming carving year be the most joyful yet!
We have been suspiciously quiet these last few months, as you may have noticed. PCCA suffered a fatal hosting issue within our website, and are just recently reconstructing our data. We are now in a position to update you and provide information as follows. Please read on.
- Our New Website will have a slightly different, but important address change. Please bookmark it on your devices. prairiecanadacarvers.ca Note the domain at the end is now .ca We will continue to populate the site with information as available.
- Show results from our past 2025 competition will be found under the “Events” tab.
- The 2026 PCCA Competition will be held the weekend of May 9-10. This is Mother’s Day weekend, but is the most suitable weekend available at our venue at Pembina Curling club this year.
- Competition Rule Changes will be minimal this year, outlined below. Please read through all rules over carefully to help place your entries correctly. The Rules document will be available on the website under “Events”.
- One notable change is the removal of the “North American” restriction for animals in Divisions H, I and J.
- Small Wonders is a new category under Division P – Exhibition. It follows the online carving communities’ love for small fun carvings. Examples include cats, chubby birds, gnomes, little bears, fish, whistles, turtles – etc. We prefer carvings in the 4-inch range, but there are no strict limitations. There is no entry fee, but carvings do need to be registered. The goal is to present carvings that make us smile.
- Purchase Award details for 2026 will follow the text of last year’s sponsors, with the following specifics (see Rules document)
- PCCA award – best carving to serve as raffle item for following year
- Jim Richardson – best Bluebill replicating Wilfred Benham – reference is available through a Google search, or contact Don Young

- Winnipeg Building & Decorating – best Rainbow Trout

- Competition Rule Changes will be minimal this year, outlined below. Please read through all rules over carefully to help place your entries correctly. The Rules document will be available on the website under “Events”.
- The Enchanted Forest. This is our theme for 2026. Carvers and clubs are invited to bring carvings of creatures or objects that might be found in this forest. We will have a “tree” to hang and place carvings. This is always a fun event for carvers and families. This is a non-competition and no fee event.
- Our raffle this year is for a pair of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that were carved by Robert Heath who won the PCCA Purchase award last year. Tickets will be available later as we get close to the Show.
- We are now members of the Manitoba Craft Council. In the fall, we participated with other members at the St Norbert Farmer’s Market promoting our craft and skills.
- Manitoba Arts Council is a partner in our show this year, providing some financial support for the show, and other PCCA endeavors. Thanks !
